President's Day with Pets

Celebrating President's Day with President Biden’s Pets

Happy President’s Day from the Vital Pet Life family! Today is a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present. President’s Day was established in 1885 in recognition of George Washington. We now celebrate it on the third Monday of February.

This President’s day, we want to celebrate President Biden, his wife, and The First Pets. Shortly after President Biden became president, he adopted a German Shepard from a rescue, as many of you know. Major was the first shelter dog in the White House. Unfortunately, there were a couple of incidents involving Major, and after consulting with experts, the Biden’s decided it would be best for Major to be rehomed into a quieter environment.

Then in December 2021, the Bidens announced the arrival of a pedigreed German Shepherd puppy named Commander, gifted to them by Joe Biden's brother. The Bidens had also promised they would get a cat, and they fulfilled that promise in January 2022 by adding a two-year-old gray tabby, Willow, to the family.

Willow stole First Lady Jill Biden’s heart when she jumped onto a stage while giving a speech on the 2020 presidential election campaign trail.

Of all of the 45 Presidents that have held office in the White House, all but three had at least one pet.

Many government offices will be closed due to the holiday today, so take some extra time to spend with your fur, feathered, or scaly friends! They’ll appreciate it and so will you. Pets bring so much love into our lives, and we need to take advantage of their endless love for us.

Happy President’s Day from the Vital Pet Life Family.
