It's International Cat Day! We know you're thinking, "Why is International Cat Day on August 8th?" To honor a long-standing tradition where people worldwide can celebrate their beloved cats with a variety of festivities.
If you've been looking for an excuse to spend some time with your cat or if you want to share in the joy of this special holiday, then International Cat Day is purrfect for you!
International Cat Day is a celebration which takes place on 8 August of every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. International Cat Day raises awareness about cats and celebrates the bond between humans and their feline friends.
Cats and Their Benefits to Humans
Cats have been our companions for at least 9,500 years. Cats are beloved members of many households around the world and are so much more than just companion animals.
Studies show that interactions with cats can improve health and reduce physical responses to stress. Having a cat in the household may also improve psychological health by providing emotional support to depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
Ways to Celebrate International Cat Day
Let's celebrate our feline friends! Here are a few ways to celebrate them.
• Extra love!
Who doesn't like a little extra love on their special day? Your feline friend is not different. Take some time today to give them an extra scratch on the head.
• Grooming.

Not very many cats will let you brush them, but it's always a good idea to either brush them yourself or take them to the groomers to eliminate excess fur and hairballs.
• New Flavor? Absolutely!

They get bored of eating the same thing every day, so why not change it up a bit today. Get them a different flavor of wet food or even some new treats.
• Everyone loves new toys, and so do cats.

While you are getting a new flavor of food, check out the cat toy section. There are always new and exciting toys your feline friend is sure to love.
• Adopt a feline friend.
If you have been thinking about getting a cat, check out your local shelter first. This is a great way to celebrate International Cat Day. By doing so, you can provide a lucky cat with a lifetime of love and safety and perhaps even improve your well-being while you’re at it!
• Volunteer.

If you can have a cat, your local shelter is always looking for volunteers! Give them a call or go down and offer to play with the cats, clean the cages and litter boxes, and help serve them dinner.
